Shoulder Surgery
I flew to Vegas to be with Olivia for her shoulder surgery. She was so nervous. She was extremely nervous about the nerve block that she would be getting.
Sugery was April 8th.
I couldn't go back with her but they let her keep her phone so that she could keep herself occupied while waiting. She would text me updates. She was so happy when she found out that they would be putting her to sleep before administering the nerve block!
After she was going in for the procedure I left the clinic to walk around and kill time. I went to Bath and Body Works to get her a bottle of her favorite lotion. When I got the call she was done and they'd be out to get me in a few minutes I headed right back to the clinic.
It was good to get back to her and see her. She came out well. The surgery went well. She had scar tissue that they removed and her labrum was frayed so the doctor cleaned that up. He said that was probably from the injury being dropped on her shoulder that caused all the pain. The scar tissue was from all the times her arm was cranked during her wrestling matches.
When we got back to the house Summer had put up a banner and everyone had signed it. Summer did such a great job making sure Olivia would have everything she needed after the surgery. Having had many surgeries herself, Summer wanted to get things that were extra special for Olivia. It was so sweet of her and not expected.
I was so worried to leave on our cruise. I was hesitant to leave Olivia to take care of the Naylor kids by herself after having surgery. It was more like, they helped to take care of her. I so appreciated that they did. Things went pretty well for the most part while Brian and Summer were gone on the cruise with us.
I felt extremely blessed that we got free iMessage and FaceTime while on the ship! Brian had paid for internet so that we could keep in touch with Olivia to see how things were going for her health wise and to make sure the kids were good and well while we were gone. Turns out he didn't need to get it after all since we all had iMessage and FaceTime work on the ship. Because Brian had paid for internet because of Olivia's surgery we did help pay for half. It was thoughtful of him to make sure we could stay connected to Olivia. He knew how anxious about it I was.
Olivia's co-worker Gillian, from Brian's office, came to help Olivia remove the tape and bandage on Saturday, four days after surgery. Another blessing to have people be so kind to come and help. A friend of Summer's drove Olivia to her post op appointment.
Here's her left shoulder with the incision points closed up with staples. It's amazing that they could do this all microscopically.
Looks painful. She said it didn't hurt other than a few times she felt a staple poke if she turned her arm the wrong way. (This was a selfie so it looks like it's the opposite shoulder.) But we're glad it's done and hope her road to recovery is good and she will be able to use her shoulder without pain. She's such a strong and brave girl. Super proud of her for doing hard things and coming out stronger. I love her to pieces...or rather, I love every piece of her.
