Happy Valentine's Day!
Time for our annual family Valentine's Day dinner. What turned out as something I did for my kids when they were little has turned in to something that they look forward to as teenagers! Picking different themes for the dinner is always fun. Fondue is still the favorite I think but they enjoy whatever it is I end up doing. This year we went with an Asian flare food dinner. Aidan and Tyler were excited for it.
We had spring rolls, chicken dumplings, wonton soup, fried rice, steak and cabbage stir fry, orange chicken, and broccoli. It was all delicious. I didn't make it all though. We bought the dumplings, spring rolls, wontons, and orange chicken. I made the steak and cabbage stir fry, and fried rice. But then I made desserts too. :)
Not asian desserts just yummy treats. I made strawberry marshmallow filled chocolate cookies and strawberry Rice Krispies treats. Then I placed coconut rolls and strawberry yogurt covered pretzels alongside them. I had a bowl of fortune cookies just for the nostalgia of having asian food.
Mom and Dad joined us for dinner. Dad even brought each of us a box of conversation hearts just like he used to give us when we were kids! The recipe has changed. These were basically sweet tarts so I did like them. I do like the original conversation hearts. lol I know some people think they're chalky but the old ones back in my day, they'd be a little soft. Not super hard. I don't ever buy them. It was more just a sweet gift from my dad on valentines day.
So back to today...
The food was all delicious. We ate well. Had fun conversation and even played a small Q&A game. The desserts were new recipes for me and turned out delicious. I think the chocolate marshmallow cookies could be a good Christmas cookie as well.
We missed our girls but we still thought of them and sent them our dinner pics. Letting them know the tradition is still alive.
I love my Valentines. My kids each told me Happy Valentine's Day and Jaime brought some beautiful roses and Lillies. They smell so good! He's so good to me. Always supportive and I couldn't have asked for a better Valentine.
