Camping

Because we put in new floors in our house we didn't plan a big summer trip or plan lots of little trips. The month was going by so fast and so many things planned that we didn't have time to make a long camping trip but we were able to squeeze in a short over night camping trip. It ended up being long enough for me. hahaha

Olivia helped with dinner. She's cutting up tomatoes for our walking taco dinner.
There was no running water!! The bathrooms were converted into permanent out houses so the sinks and faucets and flushing toilets were gone. The spigots that had the running water for cooking were gone. We couldn't believe it. It wasn't until we were leaving the next afternoon that Jaime asked a park host and they said the park's water lines were so old they had to do away with them and it was too costly to fix them. There will be new water spigots for cooking and cleaning though. They just weren't working yet. We did see them later covered with black plastic. The other camping loops still had water spigots though. 😞 We just picked the wrong loop to camp in. We chose it though because the kids wanted to be by the same stream we were last year. So really, the kids chose the wrong camp site. 😉

I made the taco meat and then we opened up bags of chips and put in the meat, lettuce and any other toppings like cheese, tomato, sour cream. It was a hit with all the kids. The bags are pretty small so we each needed more than one bag. But clean up was fast!

These bright yellow birds were so pretty!

We went down to the water but didn't swim this time. It was too cold to swim the evening we got there and then checkout was around noon. The time it'd start getting warm enough to play in the water. So the trip was too short for the kids to that extent.

Just being there with the kids in this beautiful location was enjoyable enough.

Jaime let the boys help cut up kindling for the fire.

Playing down by the stream.

The mosquitos were worse this year too. And being by the stream I'm sure didn't help. But it didn't seem to hinder the kids' play one bit.

Apparently they needed some time to meditate.

I guess mother nature can have that effect on someone. :)

We don't camp that often. The kids would like to. We decided that next time the girls can sleep in their own tent. 6 of us just was little snug this year. We didn't sleep well either. Everyone was so cold. Note to self...bring lots of blankets and no more air mattresses. The cold air in the mattress was horrible. But the boys weren't on air mattresses and they were cold too. Lindsey and I were both away around 4 and never fell back to sleep. So staying for just one night was ok. No one really complained. We all wanted to sleep in warm beds.
