Cancun Day 4: Chichen Itza

Good Morning! What a beautiful view we have.

We had to set alarms and get up early to meet our guide and driver who picked us up at the resort. We had a couple hour drive to get to the Mayan ruins, Chichen Itza.

We went with Mormon tours. He kinda brought in some thoughts from the Book of Mormon. It was real interesting.

The ruins that stand this long really are amazing to me.

Walking around slowly through the city and stopping to hear the guy talk did feel a little tedious sometimes. It was real hot outside.

Lots of lizards crawling around. They liked these yellow flowers.

These pillars were amazing. perfectly lined up so that if you stand in front of one you can't see any others behind it.

The engineering of these ruins is incredible. Seeing what they could construct without the use of machines is so amazing.

The main attraction. Truly is remarkable. The architecture around this. We learned that there are four cenotes from each direction of the pyramid and just a few years ago it was discovered that there is another cenote underneath! And sadly, because of that tourists are no longer allowed to walk up the steps. I always thought if I was able to go to Chichen itza that I would love to climb to the top. Sadly it wasn't so. We knew that before we went so there wasn't a surprise there.

If you stand directly in front of the pyramid where the open doors are up top, you can clap and hear this crazy echo resonate back.

Our crew :) After the tour we were able to browse through the little market stands to see what the locals were selling. Then we were taken to this fabulous Mexican restaurant where they had authentic local Mexican food. It was real good.

After lunch we were dropped off at a cenote to go swimming. It was so beautiful!

we had so much fun just floating around in this incredibly deep hole of water. Us girls even jumped off the jump landing.

The view when you walk down into the cenote.

After all that fun we had the long drive back to the resort. I couldn't help but feel so grateful for what I have at home when I saw the living conditions of the locals around here.
